What is my life?

So the last week has been a bit of a rollercoaster. I knew my German was rubbish, in fact a lot worse than it should be considering I've been learning it for 12 years, but this notion was confirmed during a horrible, horrible seminar which I have since left.

My dream was to teach German but I can't even learn it correctly so I don't have a hope in hell of teaching it.
My new dream was to teach Italian, but I've trawled through website after website after website after website...

You searched for "Italian Jobs" in South Wales

                                                                     0 results found
Related searches: Teach French or Spanish or Punjabi
or Urdu or Polish or Romanian or Mandarin or Chinese
or just give up on the whole damn thing because you don't
                                                                      stand a chance really.

So clearly, nobody wants Italian teachers and the only other jobs on these websites are for waitresses in an Italian restaurant.

I think it's time for me to look for a new dream. More importantly, I need to look for a new career.
So now, there shall be no more PGCE. I shall complete my degree, teach Italian in adults classes or something just so I can do something I love, and I shall start looking for any other job in Cardiff that will have me...

Big issue anyone?

  1. Never give up on your dreams. You can teach italian and german in schools - especially in private schools cos those two languages aren't as common as french or spanish, so it makes you stand out. And if in doubt, go back to Italy to study triennio or biennio - you can find jobs teaching english here, or something :)It's really hard to just uproot your life when you've become really settled somewhere, especially when the new place speaks an entirely different language!! If you had more time in Germany, I'm sure it would pick up, it just takes practice, like with any language, or music or sport, or any skill in fact! So don't be too hard on yourself, make a list of things you want to do on your erasmus year and just go out and do them! You don't know what you are capable of until you face your challenges head on with an open mind :) Go for it Tassia xxx

  2. What she said!!! ^^^ don't stress about a job and career path just yet we have 4th year and the following year where we will be lucky to have any sort of job let alone one that's actually to do with our career straight off, given economic climate. And so what if we are waitresses for first couple of years after graduating while we are waiting for our dream jobs to appear. Chill beautiful!! Just get through this year first and worry about surviving without suicide let alone stressing about jobs. Anyway Giuseppe will be happy to recommend you to any school I am sure. As he has influence in certain areas!! Just let us get this year done first hey?? Let's not run before we can walk. It's all any of us can hope for to just pass given the rollercoaster this year has been not passing with flying colours. We will all pass but what I am trying to say is stop piling the pressure on like always!!!!!!!! Love you. Sending love and hugs from sicily and Kara xxxxxxxxxxxx
